CONCERNS ABOUT THE AIDS PANDEMIC
The thing that i have noticed is that the virus is very prevalent where there is hunger. I would say at least 45% of us here in Swaziland cannot afford
vegetables.
Now to me the vegetable or fruit in your diet every day combined with the ARVS is the only way we can live much longer with the virus and still be
productive. It is a fact that productivity is being compromised by our people going of sick. This plays right into the hands of the Asians who have a much lower rate of AIDS. Soon we have to engage big business to counter this pandemic.
I have come up with a small programme
which I call my bucket garden. I have put it in one of the homesteads in the
rural areas
and it is doing very well. This concept has long been there but not used
because our
belief is that every thing must be grown in the ground. I am hoping to share
this with
every body so whoever sees this as one of the initiatives to reduce hunger
with
healthy food we can maintain a healthy work force. The WFP only gives maize.
oil and beans which is not enough for the body to function as it should
especially
our brothers and sisters who have been compromised with the virus. As much
as we
are looking at growing Africas economy the negative aspect of the Aids
pandemic
will wipe out whatever strides we have made . This is so because a lot of
our companies are labour intensive. We must not forget to keep our workers
healthy
in our fight for a bigger slice of the world economy we can turn this
pandemic around
but we have to act fast by starting programmes in the rural areas .Believe
me it is
not a costly project and it would save thousands of lives thereby keeping
the work force
healthy.
As we know the pandemic is hitting the workforce the most.
A simple
diet
of PAP AND CABBAGE does wonders for your immune system. I HAVE SEEN
IT TRANSFORM A VERY SICK PERSON INTO A PRODUCTIVE PERSON.
Let us not lose sight of the fact that as the economy grows the work force
must stay
healthy.
Question: A lot of companies are providing ARVS - Are they good enough on their own?
Answer: NO! - They are not.
