27 July saw the official launch of the South Africa-Mozambique Chamber of Commerce (SAMOZACC) at the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg. The event, which drew close to 300 people mainly from the South African business community, was testimony to the level of interest that exists in greater South African-Mozambique business connections.
The gala event was addressed by an impressive list of speakers, headed up by the Mozambique Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr Alfredo Namitete. Other speakers included:
The newly-established SAMOZACC will now start a membership drive. A Management Committee for the new Chamber has been nominated, and will formally be elected at the first meeting of SAMOZACC. It consists of:
The above board nominees, except for the President and Deputy Presidents Elect, formed the Steering Committee which brought the Chamber to this point. They represent the Chamber’s Founding Member companies:
An impressive list of figures have already agreed to act as Patrons to the Chamber, and discussions with some exciting other personalities are underway to bring them on board as Patrons too. The current Patrons are:
SAMOZACC will work as a partner with CCIMOSA in Maputo, and provide a key private sector link between the business communities in the two countries. An exciting programme of action and services for members is being worked out by the Management Committee-Elect, and will be announced soon.
