The SABC is calling on all decision-makers to contribute towards the Tsunami Disaster Fund drive.
A special VIP Telethon will be broadcast on SABC2’s Morning Live and SABC Africa programmes on Tuesday, 11 January in aid of the Tsunami Disaster.
The Telethon which is aimed at decision-makers was done to give Government and Business the opportunity to participate publicly in the fund drive that has been set up for aid towards Tsunami survivors. To date almost R2 million has been received by the Welcome Msomi Gateway/SABC fund from the general public. This includes money that was received via SMS-messages.
Various (South African) Government representatives such as Premiers, Mayors and Ministries will be challenged to donate money to the SA Red Cross Society. Parallel to this, SABC Executive members will be challenging business partners, broadcast competitors and other big business to donate to the Red Cross.
§ Minister Sydney Mufamadi is set to challenge all the Premiers in South Africa, while Mayors of all the major and small cities will be competing to see who brings the most money to the table.
§ Parastatals such as Eskom, the Post office, Transnet and Postnet will battle against each other to bring in funds.
§ MEC's, DG's and the Government Communications Department will also challenge each other.
§ ABSA Bank will also be represented by their Chairman to challenge all the banks in South Africa.
§ SABC Chairman, Mr. Eddie Funde will be challenging other Chairmen Foundations from big corporates such as Liberty Life, Sanlam, Old Mutual, Anglo American, etc.
§ SABC CEO Peter Matlare will also challenge CEO’s of other Media Houses and Broadcasters, Radio stations, Communications Companies and On-Line Media.
§ Phil Molefe, Head of SABC Africa will challenge Foreign Embassies that have offices in South Africa. He will also challenge foreign broadcasters.
§ SABC Sales and Marketing Director, Mark Jakins will challenge all Sales Executives, Advertising Agencies, PR Companies, Marketing Consultancies to increase the donations.
§ Price Waterhouse Coopers will be taking on other auditing firms while Webber Wenzel Bowens will challenge legal companies.
Media Houses and Newspaper Companies will be challenged by Independent Newspapers, who has come on board with SABC to assist the marketing of the fund.
Don’t forget to watch and call the studio with your pledge on SABC2 during Morning Live and SABC Africa Tuesday morning, 11 Jan from 07h00.
