AFRICA FASHION

A FASHION IN AFRICA SHOW took place in 2006, at the Wonderboom Airport, Pretoria (Tshwane) South Africa. This exiting event formed part of the Tshwane Business Week that has distinguished itself as a highlight on the city's annual calendar.

The Tshwane Metro's City Development Strategy (CDS) focuses - among others - on repositioning the city as a culturally vibrant city. The CDS pays particular attention to expanding the development potential of the currently under-developed northern areas of the city, upgrading and renovating the Wonderboom Airport to boost business tourism to the entire Tshwane and particularly to spur growth and investment in the region north of the Magaliesberg. The Fashion in Africa Show speaks to all these abovementioned focus areas of the CDS.

The fashion show formed part of an event, called FASHION IN AFRICA. Tshwane Metro and the Embassy of Tunisia have embarked on this joint venture to promote African fashion and culture. The project, launched in May at the Wonderboom Airport, was a public relations initiative aimed at creating awareness for African Fashion and culture and will stimulate the fashion and textile industry by supporting a niche market for economic development in the longer run.
