"HOW CAN I SUPPORT 'MY LOCAL COMMUNITY'?"

Through a PPP(Process of Positive Participation)

Local economic development is NOT just a 'government thing' - we all need to take hands and become united in our efforts to implement and drive sustainable local economic development.

Lets create an investment climate within our communities through positive participation! Lets initiate and implement business projects, no matter how insignificant, that would lead to job creation (employment opportunities). Lets therefore stimulate our local economy and ultimately stimulate Africa's economy – this will lead to prosperity.

Local economic development is the seed to sustainable development – local development is reliant on investment (local and foreign investment) – however, to attract investment requires service delivery or better. Service excellence is the fruits of good leadership – however...... leadership needs co-operation and participation!

The Foundation for the Development of Africa mandated the I SUPPORT AFRICA PROJECT to provide a 'platform' that will allow the ‘you and I’ of every community, to participate in this sustainable development process of their community.

The key significance of the I SUPPORT AFRICA PROJECT is to promote and preserve positive participation and co-operation within the community.

How then can I participate in the ‘well-being’ of my community?

First......
A commitment is required - Add your name to the growing list of names - all proclaiming:
"YES .... I SUPPORT 'MY LOCAL COMMUNITY' !" .

Secondly......
Support local trading - trade with or within YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY - and abide to a number of good business principles - most importantly "Good Governance"

Thirdly......
What product or service do you have that is or could be serving the community?

The objective here is to determine what products and/or services are available in any given local community and ultimately throughout Africa. From a local perspective, knowing what products and services are available, in any given community across the continent, will enhance and encourage local support for these listed products and services. Knowing what’s available will also highlight products and services NOT available – revealing opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs.”

This project, aptly called Products and Services Serving Africa, uses a uniquely designed and very user-friendly MySQL database for the capturing and dissemination of this valuable information. This collective database of products and services serving Africa will constitute the backbone of trade throughout communities, throughout Africa and beyond and will be made available to the public via easy access search options such as mobile phones via SMS; the Internet; latest touch-screen technology in shopping malls; call centres; information centres; community centres; government offices and any other medium available.

In order to ensure the widest possible reach, the Products and Services Serving Africa project recognises the valuable contribution of existing listing services, such as local ‘listing services’ that operate commercially and offer free business listings along with a nominal fee for advertising; business associations that offer a ‘members only’ listing service; and the listing services occasionally offered by non-profit services such as community development organisations. The project therefore provides local listing service providers with a useful link from the Products and Services Serving Africa database, free of charge.

The collaboration of everyone is essential and will demand co-operation between Local Government; Business; Media; Civil Society; Business Associations; Community Leaders and the Community
