HOW CAN I

ESKOM ENTERPRISES
FDA NETWORKING FUNCTION
11 September 2001

Crowne Plaza Hotel - Sandton - South Africa

OUR GUEST SPEAKER
MR. JAN DE BEER
Chief Executive Officer
ESKOM ENTERPRISES

**********************************

This FDA NETWORKING FUNCTION was proudly sponsored by:

HEWLETT-PACKARD AFRICA

MARCONI

ESKOM ENTERPRISES

*********************************************

Our first FDA Networking Function on Tuesday, 11 September 2001,
was in danger of being marred by the tragic terrorist attack on New York and Washington!
At 15H45 on Tuesday, less than three hours to the start of the Networking Function,

I was seriously considering the cancellation of this event.

"Should we continue with the function"
"Was this the start of a World War?"
"Could there be life after this crazy attack?"
"Would anyone still be interested or available to attend?"

Realising that the cancellation would be just what the terrorist
would expect - we decided to press on!
I made contact with the sponsors and they agreed -
We continue!
understanding that the turnout may be affected.

117 GUESTS ATTENDED THE FDA NETWORKING FUNCTION!

By 14H00 on Tuesday, 11 September 2001, we had received 154 RSVP's.

Of the 154 RSVP's - 49 had not responded to our confirmation request.
Of the 105 confirmations received only 21 did not arrive! (20%)
A very good response - considering!
Of the 49 non-confirmations 31 attended.

**********************************

Our guest speaker, Mr. Jan de Beer, CEO Eskom Enterprises, delivered a very informative presentation on Eskom Enterprises and their activities in Africa. He emphasised the importance of joint venture initiatives into Africa and urged private and corporate sector participation in Africa development.

Jan de Beer's enthusiasm for Africa, his well-structured presentation, supported by descriptive overhead transparencies and his humorous quips was well received by the guests.

Well done.
Just to close - thank you, thank you and again thank you. It was wonderful, and I have absolutely no doubt you will move from strength to strength.

We would like to extend our condolences to Steve Lamb from Verestar who sent the following email:

Peter,
Unfortunately, due to the tragic events of yesterday and the effect that it had on Verestar worldwide, I could not leave the office to attend the function.
Thirteen of my colleagues, from the USA, worked in the World Trade Centre are still missing and everyone within Verestar is hoping and praying that they may have survived this tragedy.
As you can imagine, it was unforeseen so please accept my personal apologies for my absence, My attendance at the office was required and could not leave at all.
Regards
Steve
