A familiar face in Africa
Early retired, internationally oriented experts are offering a helping hand as volunteer senior experts to SME’s and business institutions. They are willing to share their know-how and expertise based on a life time experience, hence adding great value to all our clients. By putting minds together it is easier to get to the crux of an issue, which is the first step towards a solution.

For more than 25 years now we have been facilitating this type of direct and personal advice in numerous countries with the aim of contributing to the local economy, creating employment, establishing international business contacts and stimulating cleaner manufacturing.

PUM is an independent Dutch organisation with an impressive database of experts with specific knowledge in virtually every conceivable area of industry, agriculture, service and trade. These experts have made their mark and contributed significantly during their own career by developing the enterprises and organisations they worked for.

This programme was initiated in 1978 by the Dutch Confederation of Employers and is funded by our government. Local representatives are available for further information.

* Volunteers: Nowadays they are volunteers and they want to assist in building the local economy in emerging and developing economies, without being paid for this work. Only reasonable board, lodging and local transport (from guesthouse to work) and office facilities are for the account of the beneficiary.

Some 3500 senior experts are registered with the PUM programme. They carry out 2000 projects per annum. Their expertise is available, whether you need advice for a technical topic or assistance in management, finance, business organisation, human resources etc. PUM has a specialist for any field you care to mention, who is ready and willing to work out a solution together with you.

The package of direct advice and knowledge transfer that we offer is varied. Thousands of enterprises and institutions have already gone this path, requesting that a senior expert be allocated. They have benefited from a fresh look and expert assistance from outside the organisation.

This type of support is also available to business institutions such as Chambers of Commerce, branch organisations, federations of employers, etc.

* Other products:
· Follow-up visits.
· Seminars, organised in the countries concerned, all tailored to local needs.
· Training in the Netherlands for selected staff members of the organisations we have supported
· Business links; being instrumental in establishing business contacts with Dutch companies.

* Eligibility:
Every local SME with a staff of at least 10, being in operation for two years or more, unable to afford a consultant in private practice and with limited (max. 49%) foreign ownership is welcome. Start-ups, micro enterprises and affiliates of multinational companies are excluded.

The so-called business supporting institutions, see above, are also qualifying.

* Once more:
The expenses for assigning an adviser are split between PUM (travelling expenses to the nearest airport, full insurance package and all other cost related to the project) and the beneficiary (reasonable board, lodging, local transport and office facilities).

The expertise is free of charge.
