INTERNATIONAL AND EMBASSY RELATIONS FOR MILLENNIUM GOALS DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
Divergent views over the direction of Africa’s foreign policy have generated an important discussion within the global village. Challenges to Africa’s approach to hemispheric interaction and setbacks the continent experienced in international venues have complicated the debate. However, the proposed Beijing Action Plan of 2006 between China and Africa and the recent granting of South Africa the host status of showcasing the world’s glamorous sport i.e. soccer have created a new impetus to relations between Africa and the rest of the world. Within Africa, there is a significant debate over the direction of the continent’s foreign policy; whether Africa should give priority to relations with the west, east or better still, use its strengthened economy and technological prowess to project continental interests globally. The debate touches on important differences of opinion regarding democracy, globalization, international cooperation, and the nature of socio-economic challenges, climatic changes and the future direction of education and agricultural production and trade as drivers of regional development and peace.

2008 AFRICA SMME CONFERENCE AND AWARDS
For Africa, big business, development institutions, government and other private and public sector organisations have a critical role to play to promote SMME development. Economic development, in the continent, will be stagnated if the SMME fails to take a development lead. To address this, Africagrowth Agenda in partnership with African government and major organisations is organising the second Africa SMME Conference and Awards which will take place on the 23rd of October 2008. The Conference and Awards ceremony will be aimed at presenting recent growth trends in SMME development in the continent and recognising and rewarding successful SMME entrepreneurs The main aim of this event is, therefore, to support and showcase Africa's finest entrepreneurial achievements in the SMMEs sector. The awards will consist of 6 Sector categories and an overall winner.

WOMAN IN BUSINESS
The corporate ladder is evolving and is no longer a straight climb but a journey of progressive moves. By empowering women we are providing the tools for leadership and success. While things have changed in recent years with young girls being offered all the same opportunities in schools as their male counterparts, many older women are still trying to gain years of business skills that men have grown up with. Women have always had to fight much harder for things that men take for granted. Companies have identified the critical importance of offering women the opportunities they previously did not have. This change of attitude, mindset and action has led to the increasing number of women in prominent positions in an organisation. To ensure continued growth and strategic organisational success, it is imperative that companies support their further enhancement. This conference will revitalise and reinforce the role and importance of women leadership in Africa by offering key
practical sessions from the leading women from various industries.

AFRICAN TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
The conference seeks to encourage cross talk and collaboration between the rails and roads industries in the interests of increasing intermodal cohesion, and looking into moving more freight from roads to rail to relive congestion, overloading, and damage to infrastructure. The conference places the continent of Africa within a globalised world economy. The effects of this globalisation are seen in the greater volumes of commodities being traded along roads and rails. The measures taken to keep up with this demand such as overloading have quickly deteriorated African roads. This together with the underfunding of maintenance and development results in an underdeveloped infrastructure. The African Rails and Roads conference will empower stakeholders at every point along the transport value supply chain from government to the private sector with the latest strategies to utilise African rail and road networks, review progress made on policies and targets set by African countries, and then forecast future developments along with practical plans to achieve set targets. This conference has been endorsed by Rail Road- Association of South Africa, The Foundation for the Development of Africa and proudly sponsored by Mott MacDonald.
