A 'CLASSIC EVENT' SERVING AFRICA - CHAIRED BY PETER METCALFE
ENDORSED BY THE FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICA
THE 2010 LGBN MUNICIPAL LED SUMMIT
***** A LGBN EVENT *****
25 - 26 OCTOBER 2010
SOUTHERN SUN ELANGENI - DURBAN - SOUTH AFRICA
2010 THEME - ‘WE MAKE THE ROAD BY WALKING’
The 2010 LGBN Municipal LED Summit will focus on strategies at municipal level that drive job creation and investment within the municipality and its community. This is in within the framework of the opening address of the Minister for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Honourable Sicelo Shiceka, at the 2009 LGBN LED Summit.
The theme of this year’s event “We make the road by walking” follows a quote used by Minister TA Manuel, Chairperson of the South African National Planning Commission, in his opening remarks during the Spatial Planning Seminar on 5 August 2010. This quote is a line from a poem by a Spanish poet, Antonio Machado. This phrase was also used as the title for a book on education and social change by Paulo Freire and Myles Horton.
Minister TA Manuel continued: “The quote paints a powerful image that embodies how change takes place. Meaningful change is a slow and step by step process. Those embarking on the journey of change do not have to have all the answers upfront. They need only have a conviction that a better world is possible and take each step with the understanding that it is leading them towards such a world.”
A large contingent of delegates are expected to attend the summit in an environment that actively encourages and facilitates the cross-fertilisation of ideas and experiences. The Summit format is heavily based on panel discussions and case studies to enable participants to immediately use that information within their own organisations.
