COMMONWEALTH - KENYA INVESTMENT CONFERENCE
NEPAD SECRETARIAT
NEPAD BUSINESS GROUP
NEPAD INDUSTRY SECTOR COMMITTEES
USA DEVELOPMENT AID
The Commonwealth Business Council is working in collaboration with the Government of the United Republic of Kenya and the Investment Promotion Centre to help develop the business opportunities afforded in Kenya.
The theme of the conference is "Kenya-Gateway to East Africa and COMESA Regions", which offers investors the opportunity to assess at first hand the progress in implementing Kenya's economic recovery programme and establishing relationships with key public and private sector decision-makers.
The conference will bring together potential investors from across the Commonwealth and beyond to interact with the Government and with the entrepreneurs and executives running Kenya's leading organisations. An important objective is to explore business partnerships and discuss business and investment projects.

The NEPAD initiative received a severe blow when it recently announced that Mr. Sunday T. Dogonyaro, Principal Programmes Coordinator, NEPAD Secretariat is to be recalled back to Nigeria.
It is common knowledge that this very important initiative has faced severe setbacks due to lack of manpower and infrastructure. An extremely important strategy meeting by members of SAFCEC (Southern African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors) was recently snubbed by NEPAD. Several invitations were submitted to NEPAD Secretariat expressing the importance of this meeting - I personally attempted to intervene with regard a NEPAD presence - NEPAD respectfully declined participation.
There was talk at the meeting that had the invitations included first class air tickets and five-star accommodation in Paris (France) - someone from NEPAD may have attended the meeting.
Sunday Dogonyaro is a true "Son of Africa" - I would like to express my gratitude for what he has contributed to the NEPAD initiative and Africa. I trust he will continue with his passion for Africa back home in Nigeria.
NEPAD Secretariat should heed the danger of making NEPAD a proudly South African initiative.
Not much available on this website - but at least good start - very sad that there is no access to or means of allowing one to participate!
POWER - Duncan Mbonyana
You may recall I requested the following information:
First allow me to congratulate you on your appointments - no doubt your efforts in serving Africa is being recognised.
Lynette Chen responded by saying the members of her committee vary from meeting to meeting.
I am not sure if it is worth pursuing these NEPAD Industry Sectors committees - I am convinced they are not to keen to share what they are achieving and as participation is available through invitation only - I doubt if our people will ever be included in these processes.
Africa must take hands and become united in her efforts to implement this important NEPAD initiative - Africa will succeed!
Washington - The US yesterday named 63 countries eligible to share billions of dollars in US aid under a new programme aimed at rewarding developing nations that commit themselves to democratic and free market reform. A billion dollars has already been made available by congress for fiscal 2004 and President George W Bush on Monday asked legislators to approve $2.5 billion for the account in fiscal 2005. The Millennium Challenge Corporation will administer the aid.
African states that won the right to compete for Millennium Challenge cash include: Angola, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.
