PRIORITIES - PARTICIPATION
You may recall our first email this year addressed our priorities for Africa - see:
http://www.fda-newsflash.org/files/05_january_2004.htm

These priorities (or the lack thereof) will impact on Africa's Development:

PARTICIPATION
COMMUNICATION
CIVIL SOCIETY
CORRUPTION
GOOD GOVERNANCE
AU - AFRICA UNION
NEPAD - NEPAD PEER REVIEW
INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
PPP - PRIVATE PUBLIC PARTNERSHIPS
CAPACITY BUILDING - SKILLS TRANSFER
THE IMAGE OF AFRICA
QUALITY
ACCESS TO MARKETS
ACCESS TO FINANCE

PARTICIPATION
The lack of participation is regarded as the biggest stumbling block facing Africa's development.

We ALL have something to contribute - if only we knew how?

Projects and initiatives, currently implemented, are presented as exclusive, available only to a select few, while access to information is non-existent.

The "Apartheid Regime" (South Africa) was a classic example of exclusivity - Africa's development should not follow suit!

Every effort should be made to allow and ensure participation - Civil Society and Local Governments, with useful access to our people, should be engaged and empowered to accommodate, promote and implement these development initiatives.

Africa's Development and the NEPAD initiative must become an inclusive process not an illusive process - providing for and allowing for participation.

On 09 January 2004 at 09H30 the following email was sent to a number of stakeholders within the NEPAD initiative:

InWEnt
* An Inquiry for potential Project Partners in SADC
and
* Analysis of the Use of IT-based Training in SADC

InWEnt - Capacity Building International, Germany is an official development assistance body of the Government of Germany for international human resources development, advanced training and dialogue.

InWEnt seeks local partners in the SADC region. These partners are intended to be the basis needed for project implementation in SADC countries. These partners will on the one hand assist InWEnt in project implementation and will on the other hand be strengthened through training by international specialists during a project cycle. Primarily these local project partners should be Business Development Service Providers (BDS)

InWEnt plans to implement training programs for Business Development Service Providers (BDS) in the SADC region in near future. In order to enable InWEnt to plan these training programs a study on the use of IT technologies, web-based training and computer aided training amongst BDS is conducted.
