CORRUPTION AND BRIBERY
In the first segment of the news this morning (Friday 3 June 2005) we are informed of the judgment and verdict of a prominent business leader, here in South Africa, found guilty on two charges of fraud and one charge of corruption following a marathon trial lasting some ten months.
WEF (WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM)
The second segment of the news outlines the outcome of the WEF (World Economic Forum) in Cape Town, South Africa, where some 700 delegates/business leaders (Big Business Only) are in the process of buying in or signing into a declaration in support of the Commissions for Africa. I am told that a consensus has been reached to allow for a process of participation and to capacitate!
THE AFRICA AGENDA
The third segment of the news included a statement from the President of South Africa, President Thabo Mbeki, from Washington in the USA, following his state visit to President George Bush where the financial needs of Africa was highlighted through the Commission for Africa report and presented to the American President in the hope that this will be accepted at the G8 summit in July
The Foundation for the Development of Africa trusts that for once Africa will receive a 'united effort' in the economic support, as detailed in the Commission for Africa report, from the G8 nations.
We also trust that the delegates (Big Business Leaders) attending the WEF, in Cape Town will, for once acknowledge that a process of participation must include all sectors of society and business - not only the elite - this exclusive approach is the reason why all previous attempts by BIG BUSINESS, to unite business in Africa, have failed.
With regard the corruption and bribery issue - we need to address the problem, the cause of this scourge, which is the lack of transparency, participation and communication. Big Business should refrain from including "bribe payments" in their budgets while Africa leaders, those implicated in or at the receiving end of bribes should be removed from office and face the wrath of the people they have deceived.
Take care

Dear Mr. Peter Metcalfe
Thank you very much for your last information.
I would like to thank you and your organisation for the effort being done to help Africa develop and to remove corruption from the Continent.
In the last few years, billions of dollars have been flowing into certain parts of Africa circumventing the rural folk. This is because this huge amounts of money pass through the hands of the elites who sit in the urban cities across the Continent.
This kind of distribution should be changed.
The rural folk must access themself to direct funds bounded to specific projects, for instance , environmental projects : establishments of parks and Gardens, ecotourism. planting of trees and flowers along various roads. Simply make Africa a good environment for living.
The rural areas must be made industry free zone.
A country like south Africa has many beautiful beaches.
Why dont you coorperate with Ghana and start planting coconut trees along these beaches.
Why does South Africa on the other hand not help Ghana to establish parks and gardens in the rural areas to enhance tourism.
This African African coorperation may not cost billions of money but the effect to help the poor is immence.
A coconut tree in south Africa can not only beautify the coast but in case of water shortage serve as a source of refleshing water.
Big Business has failed Africa for many years because it has always circumvent the rural folk.
I hope with your initiative, things will change for the better on the continent.
I remain,
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Joseph Attah Ashun
