A G8 GIFT FOR ALL IN AFRICA

British Prime Minister, Tony BLAIR, has been rewarded for his vision and efforts with the G8 leaders' unanimously accepting most of the Commission for Africa recommendations!

For once the world is in agreement with regard solutions to an Africa problem!

In brief these solutions include:

A US$50 Billion aid grant
Cancellation of debt to our poorest nations in Africa (US$55 Billion)
Access to universal AIDS treatment
Technical support for a new AU peacekeeping force for Africa
Support for NEPAD initiatives - including APRM
Enhancing private enterprise
The undertaking of addressing trade matters (farm subsidies)

In a press meeting shortly after the G8 Summit, British Prime Minister, Tony BLAIR, responded to a question as follow:

"The only condition associated to this aid is that the benefits thereof must reach those it is intended for."

We would like to express our gratitude to the G8 leader's and to all involved with compiling the Commission for Africa report - Thank you for caring for Africa!

It is evident that there are those who care about Africa because they can - then we have those who care about Africa because they do!

Now we need to "Walk the Talk" and ensure a process of participation for ALL Africa!

Take care

Dear Peter
This is excellent gesture from G8 Summit and hope for Africa.
Participation for ALL to me should also articulate to improved access to resources for women of Africa to promote their development and participation in Africa's economy.
Secondly, Africa should promote development in a sustainable manner that will generate more resources for the future.

Greetings Brother Peter Metcalfe,
First let me congratulate you on the great work you are doing providing information on the Continent and the networking sessions through this site and the FDA - Foundation for the Development of Africa Organization.

However, although we are pleased that the G8 is moving in the right direction to repair the damage that they have done to Africa, its Peoples on the Continent and in the Diaspora, we cannot act as if they are doing us a favor and presenting us with a gift. They are simply returning a part of what they have stolen and attempting to rectify the conditions that their policies have created. Furthermore, it is not enough--it is just a good start in the right direction!
Forgiveness of debt to only the 14 poorest nations will not put needed cash in place for needed programs, policies and projects to reverse the institutionalized poverty and discrimination.
So yes we do acknowledge a step in the right direction, but please let's be clear and not send the incorrect message to our people--we are NOT all getting a gift.

Please see my poem below.
Peace, unity and prosperity for Afreekah in our Lifetime!

The G8
The G8--Grand Great Eight
Who nah help JAH People Repatriate
Now claim dem going to repair
Their past actions which have not been fair

So led by Bush and Blair
They now want the world to cheer
Because they are offering bread crumbs
To the Afreekahn countries their actions left in dumps

Are we supposed to applaud
Please do tell us my Lord
When people decide to give back
What they stole to cause poverty and lack

So they want to make a start
To do the right thing which should be in their heart
But who caused Afreekah's poverty
To even cross oceans and seas to its Diaspora geneology

Do they forget Alkebulan's past wealth
Civilizations, knowledge and strength
Before those colonizers came to steal our many a land
Along with our strongest children, woman and man

So forgive us if we do not join the celebration
Of the thieves and murderers of our Afreekahn nation
The Proverb says, once bitten twice shy
In the past the promises were pure lie

So we will err on the side of caution
Waiting for the Restoration of the Afreekahn Nation
While we all continue to develop our people and land
For that is the responsibility of every Afreekahn

Hi Peter,
The year(s) of you plugging away at FDA on all of our behalf's is having an impact - well done, showing perseverance pays off.
Are there any mechanisms in place or suitable contacts envisaged to access the G8 funds?
Our business focus is low cost (RDP) housing as either developer or Project Manager on behalf of Municipalities & Dept. of Housing.
Additional funding would increase the house size (currently from 28mē) AND provide better than a "tin" roof, dusty/muddy roads.
You will observe that I have a humanity problem with what any one can provide with Govt. housing subsidy alone.
Keep up the very good work.

Hi Peter,
I always read your e-mails with interest and use them to remain abreast of what's happening in Africa.
I would like to ask you what the FDA's stance on Zimbabwe is and how I, personally, can make a contribution to assisting change in this country?
Many people read with interest the G8's aid grant and the immediate reaction is corruption and tyranny is rife in many African countries so what's the point anyway? I don't think Zimbabwe will actually be benefiting from this aid but it is still a huge problem for all of Africa.
I guess what I am asking is what can I do to help?
Kind regards,
Nicole De Klerk
