What an exceptional honor it was to chair THE FUTURE OF WOMEN LEADERSHIP conference held in Pretoria, South Africa, on Monday and Tuesday - The energy and optimism oozing from the delegates, all women (but for two brave males) left me with no doubt that our women here in Africa mean business.
The INTEGRATED GOVERNANCE conference in Cape Town, South Africa, last week and the CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REPORTING AFRICA 2005 in Sandton, South Africa yesterday, provided some very interesting comments - with almost every presentation emphasising the need for PARTICIPATION - this has been our (Foundation for the Development of Africa) plea for some time now!
I will be releasing (this weekend) a brief report on each event, on our website. This forms part of my service as Chair Extraordinaire - should you be in need of a professional, impartial chair for your event - please feel free to make contact:
You are also welcome to visit my personal Chair Extraordinaire website for more detail:
"Urgent steps on mechanisms for capacity building of the seven African Regional Economic Communities (RECs) were agreed upon at a recent two-day workshop of the NEPAD Secretariat, in collaboration with the African Development Bank (ADB).
The workshop was held in Abuja, Nigeria, reports NEPAD Dialogue, the weekly newsletter of the NEPAD Secretariat.
The workshop brought together all seven economic communities to take a further look at their role in the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).
Agreed action
The NEPAD Secretariat will establish a continental database of projects, which will be linked to the databases developed by the RECs.
The regional databases will be established with the assistance of the NEPAD Secretariat and development partners.
Many of the projects and programmes that will be initiated through NEPAD, will require that civil society and the public be part of the information gathering and decision making cycles that directly affect them.
However, the capacity of African civil society to engage effectively with governments and other shareholders faces many challenges.
To this end, the World Bank and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), through the Southern African Institute for Environmental Assessment (SAIEA), have launched a two-year capacity-building programme to improve the capacity of civil society to engage in the public participation process"
