The FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICA proudly presents you with the following information that may add value to Africa's development. Please direct any correspondence to: info@isupportafrica.com

UPCOMING CONFERENCE ADDRESSING CORRUPTION

Influence peddling, a 'politically correct' phrase for accepting bribes, remains one of the biggest challenges facing political leaders who are not on the receiving end of this lucrative market.

Corruption is impacting negatively on Africa's growth - just how do we address this scourge?

I am chairing the Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity Symposium on the Public Sector - Abusing Public or Entrusted Power for Private Gain. We will meet on 12 to 14 July in Durban, South Africa, at the Garden Court Marine Parade. This is a must attend symposium - for all - Public Sector and Private Sector.

I recently wrote:

President Fidel CASTRO publicly warned of the possibility that the system (The Cuban Government) could 'self-destruct' should the 'battle against corruption' and other vices, such as theft, diversion of funds and abuse of power in state-owned corporations not be curtailed. "Either we defeat the problem, or we die," he warned.

We all need to heed corruption - slipping a security guard a small 'financial reward' for allowing you access to a restricted parking area or 'leaving' a twenty dollar' bill in your passport when clearing customs is as corrupt as 'influence peddling' officials!

Dear Peter,
Thanks for all the series of information that kept coming to my box and your Africa initiatives. It is obvious how passionate you are about Africa and her development.
On this particular subject, though the whole of Africa is liable but Nigeria should partake more because of her population and level of corruption despite reforms that is going on.
I wish you all the best.

Hello Peter,
I am a former member of parliament.
I have one thought to share.
All officials and all holders of public office must have their lifestyles minutely monitored.
The lifestyle one leads is a dead give away of corrupt practices.
Privacy is important but public officials must be subject to scrutiny and that scrutiny must extend to lifestyle.
