The restructuring of the FDA (Foundation for the Development of Africa) Executive Management has emphasized the importance of sound leadership throughout all sectors of the new FDA. The need to appoint an effective, proactive, innovative financial director makes good business sense.
Often I praise the South African Minister of Finance, Mr. Trevor MANUEL, for his continued efforts in initiating original tax collecting support programmes that lead to substantial revenue collections resulting in further development, thus more revenue.
All financial managers should take a lesson from this proactive minister and seriously consider implementing original revenue generating support programmes that will impact positively on the organisations performance and development. The age-old image of the blinker-wearing company accountant and his calculator is long gone, making way for the more dynamic hands-on director, constantly adding value to performance.
Finding this innovative, proactive, hands-on financial director is not as easy as it may seem - therefore when I was approached to chair the upcoming CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Symposium or the Southern African Financial Management Symposium, I jumped at the opportunity.
