FORMING NEW PARTNERSHIPS FOR AFRICA'S DEVELOPMENT
A VOLUNTEER WILLING TO SERVE AFRICA
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES SERVING AFRICA

I was witness to the essence of NEPAD (New Partnerships for Africa's Development) at the Light Engineering 2006 workshops and one-to-one business meetings that took place in Mauritius last week. This was the second event in a series of Investment Promotion Meetings held under the auspices of the EU-SADC Investment Promotion Programme (ESIPP).

At the event some 159 projects from within the SADC Region was presented while 99 SADC companies SADC were present - directly representing 114 projects. The EU was represented by 90 EU/3rd country companies with 43 EU/3rd country companies present.

More than 800 'one-to-one' official meetings were recorded and no less than 45 'letters of intent' were issued by close of conference. These figures mentioned do not include 'unofficial' networking and 'after-hour' social discussions that took place, these discussions leading to possible partnerships, joint ventures or business deals. One of the delegates told me that a deal was conceived at Johannesburg International Airport while waiting to board for Mauritius.

This is what the NEPAD initiative is all about - forming partnerships for Africa. The current NEPAD Secretariat should take a break from their busy schedule to see how the NEPAD initiative is working for the people and then realise that NEPAD belongs to the people not just a select few.

The FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICA would like to compliment all involved with this EU-SADC Investment Promotion Programme (ESIPP) initiative.

Good day Peter
I really enjoy your newsletter on NEPAD.
It gives insight about strides that are being made to make Africa an economically sound destination.
However I suggest that you change the font type of your text, probably to HTL so that it will be attractive to read.
We indeed appreciate the role you are playing in making Africa a much better place.
Kind regards,
Isaac Chipswa
