FDA - AN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

I regularly check our websites' for 'ranking performance' on all the major search engines. When someone is searching for information using a search portal they will seldom 'search' beyond page one of the search result - If you are not listed on 'page one' you may as well not be listed!

These search portals provide the world with a valuable service frequently used by developed countries, fortunately Africa and for that matter, developing countries, are now realising the benefits of these search engines and the value of the focused information made available.

Google is by far the most popular search portal. To be ranked on the front page of Google, following a popular search request is quite an achievement - currently Google searches some 4,285,199,774 WebPages. Google takes a snapshot of each page examined as it 'crawls' or 'spiders' the web and caches these as a back-up in case the original page is unavailable. If you click on the "Cached" link, you will see the web page as it looked when indexed. The cached content is the content Google uses to judge whether this page is a relevant match for your query.

Website content plays an important role with search portals when ranking a website after a search - this is the one area of concern that allows search portals to compete for market share.

During a 'spot check' this morning our FDA websites have achieved unprecedented rankings from the likes of www.google.com - www.yahoo.com - www.msn.com and a host of other search portals.

For example - when searching for the phrase "support africa" on http://www.google.com/ our website features as number one and number two in the world - this from a staggering 354,000,000 (354 Million) WebPages.

When searching for "business development africa" on http://www.google.com/ our website features as number one; two; three and four in the world - this from some 123,000,000 (123 Million) WebPages.

Not bad at all!

Two phrases that are becoming very popular are "investment opportunities africa" and "business opportunities africa" - on both these phrases our website features number one in the world - see:
