TRANSPORT – THE BACKBONE TO A COUNTRY’s SUCCESS

A few weeks ago I chaired the Africa Power and Electricity Congress, held here in Johannesburg and realized the importance of a country’s energy resource. I concluded that the energy sector must be regarded as the ‘heartbeat’ of any economy.

Recent power failures here in Johannesburg resulted in the temporary closure of many a business therefore the loss of millions - while the ripple effect may never be measured.

This brings me to the importance of the TRANSPORT sector, including the associated infrastructure. If energy is the ‘heartbeat’ then transport must be regarded as the ‘backbone’ to any economy. An efficient transport service delivers a sound economy.

With the ever increasing cost of fuel (energy) the transport industry is under enormous pressure to ensure an efficient, productive, cost effective service and also remain competitive.

There are two important transport events taking place that will be of value to everyone involved in the transport industry. We have added our endorsement to both events.

Herewith detail on both events:

Hi Peter,
If energy and transport are the heartbeat and backbone of an economy, respectively, I venture that an efficient payment system that is fully interoperable and accessible to all businesses and general consumers must be the life-blood of the economy.
Luckily in South Africa we have such a payments environment and, even more importantly for Africa!
BANKSERV (a major component in the payments environment) has developed an incredible offering for other African states with a view to assisting the continent to achieve similar levels of efficiency, sophistication and business stimulation...
Wish us and the continent luck in this important developmental challenge!
With best regards

Dear Sir,
The importantance, of energy efficiency need not be overemphasised today, as we are depleting nature reserves and combating climate change.
Therefore IPCC is calling for swift and immediate actions to reduce CO2 emission urgently.
