‘AMAZING GRACE’ – TOUCHING AFRICA
I was recently reminded that this year, 2007, is the bicentenary of the heart rendering persistence of one man, William WILBERFORCE, who changed the face of history some two-hundred years ago.
William WILBERFORCE and a few devoted supporters committed themselves to fighting the scourge of legalized slavery!
This human rights victory has been captured in a movie called ‘AMAZING GRACE’ that vividly captures the efforts of this stubborn who made it his life’s ambition to serve our people in Africa by having the dreaded slavery act abolished.
‘AMAZING GRACE’ was directed by Michael APTED and featured a star studded lineup of actors including Loan GRUFFUDD, Albert FINNEY and Romola GARAI whilst introducing Africa’s own Youssou N’DOUR.
This must-see movie is available for community development screening as well as for school screening as slavery now forms part of the South African Grade 10 curriculum.

Hi Peter
Lest we forget!
The ‘Amazing Grace’ of God in the person of His dear Son Jesus Christ, who stepped off the throne Room of the entire universe to save the world from
the slavery of Sin and the enemy of mankind.
For the joy that was set before Him, He endured the Cross and despised its shame. Hebrews 12:2
‘Amazing Grace that saved a wretch like me‘

Thanks Peter,
This movie is great and moving, this and the Blood Diamond reminded me of the exploitation of our brethren in Africa.

Thanks Peter,
I asked you before if you were spiritual and you kind of hesitated on the way to answer the question.
What you have sent out now is clearly about the Foundation of Developing Africa. There is a tremendous future for us in being here and making a difference....it is Africa's turn to build a way forward...she is blessed with good soil, beauty, minerals, forests and we can be part of the release of structured capital with an emphasis on preservation and sustainability.
Thanks for your updates, I look forward to meeting again. Soon.
I still believe in what we spoke about...lets build the vision.
Regards
Warren

Thank you for your synopsis of the Film Amazing Grace. It is a fact that
William Wilberforce contributed to the Abolition of slavery some 200 hundred
years back. However the film eulogises only the contribution of white
Europeans whose forefathers were the architects of the Trans Atlantic Slave
Trade. The role and resistance of the slaves as well as the untold hardship
which they underwent is not highlighted in the film. I believe more should
have been shown from the perspective of the slaves themselves instead of
worshipping the role of the Abolitionists alone. In fact some African
historians have deduced that the Abolitionist Movement had actually come
about as a result of the stalemate that ensued between the British
(European) Slavers and their American counterparts during the War of
Independence. It was a kind of vendetta, now that we have lost the colonies
and the profitable plantations we wont let you have them, slaves and all, so
to speak.
