Service delivery is something that impacts on us all - all the time.
The responsibility of enabling exceptional service delivery lies squarely on the shoulders of government. This means that government, through the Public Service has the responsibility to serve its communities with excellence.
While it is abundantly clear that there are great backlogs in relation to service delivery, it needs to be noted that standards cannot be raised overnight. The goal and ideal to place people first in the delivery of public services does not in any way indicate that unlimited resources are available, but that, within the African context, the limited resources must be prioritized in an effort to first address the imbalances that exist in our society due to realities spawned from our historical backgrounds.
Private companies cannot afford to ignore the needs and wishes of their customers if they want to stay in business, knowing what the customer wants and providing it quicker, is part of the survival.
If we conceptualize the government system, comprising of several sub-systems, which are inter- related and dependant on each other then the essence of service delivery becomes a reality.
Good Governance implies that actions that are undertaken to improve the general welfare of a society by means of the delivery of certain services. Government leaders, District Administrators, Council secretaries and Community Council Secretaries and the Private Sector will benefit from this two day symposium which will cover a proper Service Delivery strategies leading to happy and a satisfied customers and communities.
