Despite the efforts made by some countries, approximately 340 million people in Africa are without access to safe drinking water and only 26 countries will reach the required water target set.
To meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) sanitation target, over 400 million people need to gain access to an improved sanitation facility.
The continent has prioritised the following areas for improvement:
. Infrastructure development and planning
I will be chairing this important water event where utilities find investment and funding for infrastructure developments at the Sandton Convention Centre here in Johannesburg South Africa on 02 - 06 November 2009
