The AFRICA TRADE CENTRE AND THE FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICA proudly presents you with the following information that may add value to Africa's development.
Once again have the organizers, of the WEF (World Economic Forum), managed to 'gather' the 'so called movers and shakers' of Africa and then some, from the rest of the world, to annually remind them of the plight of our people within the continent.
Here we need to recognize the sterling work of the organizers, who are now getting quite good at this, considering these 'movers and shakers' reminisce about us, over cocktails, in five star luxury.
Promises are made about perusing promises; promises are made about promises made before promising to peruse those promises to promise? Confusing. not quite!
Panels or committees are now being established to monitor commitments from other committees who where committed to Africa's development. At the end of the day - All Talk. No Action!
The cost associated with this forum must be astronomical, notwithstanding the cost of the venues; breakfasts'; lunches; cocktail functions and dinner parties, the 'out of office' expense per delegate (800 plus) at a conservative US$300.00 per day amounts to huge figures.
If only these 'big spenders' could discard their tailor made suits, don some working clothes, if available, roll-up the sleeves and spend a few hours at grass roots level.
As with life, unless you take stock of what you've got you - will not achieve what you would like to be. Africa now needs to 'measure' what products and services Africa can offer the world, we then need to co-ordinate our efforts, practically, then 'showcase' these products and services to the world and then, only then, will Africa be in a position to compete globally.
We have already made some inroads with 'measuring' what Africa has to offer.
The Africa Trade Centre, mandated by The Foundation for the Development of Africa has just 'launched' its database driven website under the banner of PRODUCTS AND SERVICES SERVING AFRICA.
See:
This rather unique database will eventually lead to the largest database of products and services serving Africa - from agriculture to auditors, to chemicals, to engineering and financial services, to textiles and tourism.
The 'I Support Community Development Project', a private sector LED (Local Economic Development) initiative has been launched in The City of George - delivering precisely what it set out to do - recognizing products and services available in The City of George; 'showcasing' these products and services available in The City of George and encouraging people to trade with and within The City of George - therefore, building capacity.
See:
We are now preparing the 'I Support Community Development' Operations Manual, which will enable and enhance the 'roll-out' to all other communities throughout the continent.
It is here that I would like to express my sincere gratitude towards Pieter NAGEL from SA Webserv, based in Cape Town, South Africa, who diligently, from a verbal brief, constructed this unique database driven search option. Many, many hours of intense focus and concentration has now resulted in this very user-friendly search option.

It will also be fitting to make mention of Monique TERRAZAS, from Monique Terrazas Freelance Writer SA, who supported this project way beyond expectation

Thank you Mr Metcalfe for the news from the WEF - I heard about it on Radio France International this morning.
Well done Peter,
