THE I SUPPORT 'COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT' PROJECT

The Foundation for the Development of Africa (FDA) is using The City of George, in the Western Cape, South Africa, as the pilot city in its "I SUPPORT 'COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT' PROJECT" under the banner of the "I Support Africa" campaign, which is aimed at stimulating the African economy through creating and stimulating trade and business opportunities.

"I Support George" project will focus on facilitating local business and other initiatives that are conducive to sustainable development, starting a mindset that will eventually span the whole continent.

The project has many facets.

Firstly, local products and services (in the informal and formal sector) are to be listed and showcased through the FDA's extensive database on its different world-ranked/rated web sites. This process will be driven by a local co-operative.

"Through the FDA's database driven website, businesses and individuals can get their products and services into the international market. This website currently 'showcases' products and services serving Africa that will lead to the largest database of its kind in Africa - serving Africa - from agriculture to auditors, to chemicals, to engineering and financial services, to textiles and tourism. We can put people into contact with people," said FDA Chairman Peter Metcalfe.

Another facet of the project is the AFRICA TRADE CENTRE VIDEO CONFERENCING NETWORK 'TelePresence' facility. This project will initiate Africa's first coordinated video-conferencing trading platform. Here major role players, stakeholders and decision makers, throughout Africa and beyond, will communicate, deliberate and trade via a trusted, dedicated, secure video-conferencing network portal.

Investors and businesspeople from all over the world will, via the Africa Trade Centre, have coordinated, structured video-conferencing access to subscribers throughout Africa.

Subscribers to the Africa Trade Centre Video Conferencing Network will include: Public and Private Trade Offices; Public and Private Trade Promotion Agencies; Private and Public Investment Promotion Agencies; Investment and Trade Consultants; Investors; Financial Institutions; Legal Experts; Business Advisors; Business Associations; LED (Local Economic Development) Agencies; Importers; Exporters and any other interested participants.

Communication via the Africa Trade Centre Video Conferencing Network will be enhanced by providing a video-conferencing link to strategic partner - LANGUAGE INC, based in Cape Town South Africa.

Language Inc will provide subscribers to the NETWORK with a professional 'simulcast' translation service into any language required - a world-first for Africa!

Dear Peter,
Thank you so much for the information on the George project. In my heart i am still convinced that your next town will be Potchefstroom.
To all the other people i cc'd this document please visit the website there's a whole new approach on trading, training, networking and development in Africa. There is also a section where us women can, made and will make a difference. You can make a difference.
Take some time out of your busy schedule, don't reinvent the wheel. All of us will eventually benefit, if we take hands on community level and build it up to national level even taking it further.
The concept is marvelous, and in most of my presentations i talk about the grass growing stronger by itself so that the elephants go somewhere else to fight. If you want to fight this economic climate and survive and make a difference at the same time have faith.
But faith has got feet.
So pull a Nike and lets start mowing the lawn. South Africa can build up such a strong trading base and if you think maybe I'm too small a company to be profiled you are exactly the company that we need.
I don't benefit financially by marketing this concept but this concept has really changed my perception on marketing in general.
This way end users, small manufacturers can get access to a wider market. Even a town can get publicity and start supporting its own businesses, increasing service providers in the town itself and the best of all identifying needs thereby creating more opportunities.
Please do yourself and your marketing department a huge favour and read the master plan on the website.
