THULANI NZIMA

Currently Chief Executive Officer for South African Tourism since January 2012.

He started his career in the financial industry where he spent seven and a half years before joining the aviation industry.

This is where he found his passion and spent 13 years with SAA (South African Airways) in various senior and executive positions, including 4 years as GM for the Benelux countries, based in The Netherlands.

He then returned back to South Africa at the end of 2000 to take up senior roles in the domestic SAA (South African Airways) market. He was appointed CEO for SA Travel Centre, an SAA (South African Airways) subsidiary travel agency network franchiser which was amongst the top 4 consortia in South Africa at the time.

Thulani broadened his horizons at the end of 2007 when he joined Avis Rent A Car Southern Africa as Group Sales and Marketing Director, a position he held for 4 years until the end of 2011 when he responded to the call to serve the national duty as CEO for South Africa Tourism.

South African Tourism delivered double-digit growth (10.2%) during 2011-2012 in the tourism sector, wnhile other sectors of the economy showed minimal or zero growth, and even a decline in growth, over the same period. In recognition of the leadership excellence which underpinned this achievement, Mr Thulani NZIMA is a worthy recipient of the Africa Leadership Excellence Recognition.
